About this blog

Ok! From now on, my Master course log book will be a blog book! Yes you’ve guessed it right! Here in Grenoble, WE are MODERN STUDENTS!! Let me start from the beginning and relate how it all started:

As a continuous exercise, the M1 English students have to do what we call a “Master course log book”. In the log book, all the work done during the class, the homework, our appreciation of the lesson, all the handouts given to us and even our personal work have to be written in it in the form of a report. At the end of the English course, this report is noted and added to the total marks for this subject.

Today, our teacher had a wonderful idea: “instead of doing a so boring report, why not turn it into a blog?!!”  Amazing, original isn’t it? A Blog as homework!! Well, it sounds amusing to do such a thing but at a second thought will it not be time-consuming? A blog needs to be fed with interesting information for it to be captivating. What kind of interesting information can I get from an English class???…

So dear readers of this blog, (if ever there are!), please be lenient and accept that most of the posts here will be very academic. I’ll do my best so as browsing the pages here does not become dull and that you are pleased to drop here from time to time.

Well, this is a great start!
I too am concerned that it might take up too much time, but there’s no reason it should be longer to do than a courselog.
I look forward to reading your accounts of the lessons – the primary aim really is the same as the standard courselog (apart from sorting out handouts at the end of the course). Usually, it allows us, the teachers, to find out what the students have really learnt from our lessons, so it’s always interesting FOR US.
However, my main job is teaching English, and you seem to be quite advanced on that one already !
I look forward to coming back here soon – do check out the class blog for the link to a video on RSS.

    Hello, there.

Guess U don´t know me, (at least you can say that some foreigner has read your blog – think of it), but let me say something. Some things you can write on your blog are your impressions on every class you´ve had, your colleagues´comments on a topic, something funny that has been said during class. There is always that funny guy who likes to show up a little bit. These are some of the things you can write about. I myself have started a blog with my begginer students – they are not university students, but only language students. Their writing is really basic. U can read them at
    http://www.microlinsstudents.wordpress.com

U might want to write something about you there, too, under “Comments from our friends around the world”, of course, if you have some time.

    Brazilian hugs.

    Luiz

    Nice to read your blog

Dear Marjo, to think that you wrote you may have not have readers to your blog. I think it has been a very successful site where you have share many of your experiences with a wider audience.
    Congratulations,

    HI Marjo!
What a good job you’re doing!
I am a SdL English teacher and Elizabeth sent me your blog address this week. That is really interesting and I’d like to ask my students to have a look to your “course blog”! if you agree of course!
Go on writing, it is refreshing, and I like very much your article on “Alice in Wonderland”.
    Take care.

Oh my goodness, I haven’t read your blog since a long time and as always I am impressed!
Since I am still doing my internship and waiting for my result to be calculated, I have a lot of free time so here I am… (Well I should write my report but it is so boring).
I really like your page on idioms (and the poor student next to me really like the video, I was nice enough to not start to sing) and the Alice page was nice too (I love the scene with the mad hatter, don’t you?)

Anyway I hope you are having nice holidays see you soon !

  10. Dear Marjo,

Congratulations on writing such a lovely language blog! It is always interesting for teachers to know how students feel about their courses. You have provided useful insight articulated in very good English. I would have enjoyed having you as a student.
